Applicants for ASPO-HNS Membership

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery (ASPO-HNS). Before applying, we recommend reviewing the membership information and application criteria below.

Applications are now being accepted on a rolling basis. The committee will review applications quarterly to shorten the time between application and approval.

Membership Types

Full Member

For pediatric otolaryngologists practicing in the United States or Canada whose clinical practice is primarily focused on pediatric patients.

Eligibility

Applicants Must:

  • Have attended at least one ASPO-HNS meeting within the previous three years
  • Be recognized by peers as a pediatric otolaryngologist
  • Have successfully completed a pediatric otolaryngology fellowship
  • Have demonstrated professional activity in pediatric otolaryngology for at least two years following fellowship training

Applicants must also demonstrate one or more of the following:

  • Two peer-reviewed publications in pediatric otolaryngology
  • Quality improvement, patient safety, or healthcare policy contributions
  • Educational activities such as lectures, grand rounds, or presentations

  • Two letters of sponsorship from active ASPO-HNS members
  • $100 non-refundable application fee

International Member

For pediatric otolaryngologists practicing outside the United States or Canada who demonstrate a focused interest and expertise in pediatric otolaryngology.

Eligibility

Applicants Must:

  • Have attended at least one ASPO-HNS meeting within the previous three years or attend the meeting in the year of application
  • Demonstrate special expertise in pediatric otolaryngology for at least two years following completion of training

The following are strongly encouraged:

  • Academic appointment in pediatric otolaryngology
  • Teaching contributions in pediatric otolaryngology
  • Quality improvement, patient safety, or healthcare policy contributions

Application Requirements

  • Completed application
  • Two letters of recommendation from professional colleagues attesting to the applicant's focus on pediatric otolaryngology

Fellow Member

For current pediatric otolaryngology fellows and fellowship graduates within three years of completing fellowship training.

Eligibility

Applicants Must:

  • Be currently enrolled in a pediatric otolaryngology fellowship program, or
  • Have completed fellowship training within the previous three years
  • Have attended at least one ASPO-HNS meeting within the previous three years or attend the meeting in the year of application

Application Requirements

  • Completed application
  • One letter of recommendation from a voting ASPO-HNS member in good standing
  • One letter of support from the Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship Director
  • No application fee

  • Eligible to participate in ASPO-HNS educational and networking opportunities
  • May serve as a non-voting participant on committees
  • Not eligible to vote
  • Not eligible to hold office
  • Membership is limited to three years

Resident Member

For otolaryngology residents who seek exposure in pediatric otolaryngology through mentorship, education, and research (regardless of decision to pursue future fellowship training).

Eligibility

Applicants Must:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited allopathic or osteopathic otolaryngology residency program in the United States, Canada, or an equivalent international program
  • Be in good standing with their residency program

Application Requirements

  • Completed application
  • One letter of recommendation from an active ASPO-HNS member (or international equivalent e.g. ESPO) with option to waive provided valid reason provided by applicant (e.g. no peds exposure or active ASPO members at their program, or no pediatric society in their country/ region of practice)
  • One letter of support from the Department Chair and/or Residency Program Director
  • No application fee

  • Eligible for automatic transition into a fellowship membership at time of matriculating into a pediatric otolaryngology fellowship

Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Member

For Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and equivalent advanced practice providers involved in the care of pediatric otolaryngology patients.

Eligibility

Applicants Must:

  • Hold certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or equivalent credential
  • Be affiliated with a pediatric otolaryngology division, practice, or department of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery
  • Have demonstrated professional activity in pediatric otolaryngology for at least one year following completion of APP training
  • Have attended at least one ASPO-HNS meeting within the previous three years or attend the meeting in the year of application

  • $100 non-refundable application fee
